2017 Bunny Hop - 04/15/2017

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville held its third-annual Bunny Hop 5K Fun Run. Proceeds from the event benefit local Kiwanis programs, including Terrific Kids, Shoes & Socks, and Scholarships. More than 200 runners participated in the event. The Bunny Hop is held annually on the Saturday before Easter.


2017 Law Enforcement Awards - 03/30/2017

2017 Morris Kaplan Caring is Sharing Law Enforcement Award winners. Agencies represented included Hendersonville Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff's Office, NC State Highway Patrol, Laurel Park Police Department, and Fletcher Police Department. The event was coordinated by Doug Dunlap.


Atkinson Elementary wins 2017 Spelling Bee - 02/24/2017

Teams from 13 elementary schools in Henderson County competed in the annual Kiwanis Spelling Bee held this year on February 18 in the Thomas Auditorium at Blue Ridge Community College. The Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville has sponsored the Spelling Bee since 1994. The 2017 event was organized by the Kiwanis Service First Committee and headed by co-chairs Joel Franck and Chandra Burgher.

Fourth- and fifth-graders from all across Henderson County are invited each year to participate in what proves to be a real mental challenge. This year they had to contend with words like scrumptious, amiable, whimsical, incredulous and methodical.

Today’s meeting featured the annual meeting of the Morris Kaplan Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, and fund president Dr. Gary Knock called the meeting to order.


Each year, the fund provides three or four $5,000 scholarships to students from HCPS. A scholarship covers most of the tuition cost for a student to attend a NC public university for the first year. 2nd Annual Bunny Hop Fun Run Announced - 02/12/2016

The 2nd annual Kiwanis Bunny Hop Fun Run is scheduled for 10:00 am on March 26, 2016, at Jackson Park. This event is a 5K Fun Run (or walk) with proceeds benefiting Kiwanis projects serving children, such as Terrific Kids, Balfour Babies, and the Shoe program.

The Bunny Hop is not a sanctioned race – it is meant to be a Fun Run and no places will be tallied. It is a family event and free bunny ears will be given to the first 200 preregistered participants and free T-Shirts are given for registrations before March 11th. Registration forms are available for download at www.hendersonvillekiwanis.org/bunnyhop2016. Online registration is also available.

Glenn C. Marlow Athletic Achievement Award Presented to Craig Long - 01/21/2016

Retired West Henderson HS teacher and basketball coach Rick Wood presented this year’s Glenn C. Marlow Athletic Achievement Award. This distinction was established in 1999 to honor a local educator with a record of outstanding achievement and community service, someone whose life has been a role model for the youth of Henderson County. It was named to honor the memory of longtime teacher, coach and superintendent (and 1989 Kiwanis Club president) Glenn Marlow, whose widow, Mrs. Dot Marlow, and daughter, Dottie Marlow Kinlaw, were present today.
